When Jace Connor joined the Phoenix-Metro Police Department, to the recruiters, it seemed almost too good to be true. The fact was, he looked good on paper and in the eyes of the public. Because his father was a famed LAPD SWAT Commander, he was considered a “Legacy.” His mother, a Colombian immigrant and medical missions doctor brought her family to diverse places around the world. This pedigree of public service combined with his laid-back surfer charisma and being a nationally-ranked collegiate athlete gave Jace Connor the appearance of being the perfect police officer. However, if the police background investigator, the polygraph examiner, or even the police psychiatrist had detected Jace Connor’s true motivations, they never would have hired him. 

 

The trajectory of Jace Connor’s life was forever changed when four years earlier, while still in college, the State Department delivered the news that his family had been violently murdered in Guatemala during what they called “a random home-invasion.” Returning home as an orphan, he buried his mother and beloved younger sister. Next to their gravestones a memorial was placed for his father whose body was never found.

With an overwhelming grief and a growing questioning of his faith, his soul was crushed by this tragedy. So, no—joining the police was not entirely about public service. Hidden under the calm surface a storm is building; this mission is personal. ​

Barely out of rookie status, his commendable police work recently landed him on a task force working with the elite Special Assignment Unit as they target a transnational drug organization called Los Monstruos de Medellín—or simply, “The Monsters.” Narrowly escaping an unprecedented ambush by this Colombian cartel on American soil, Jace soon discovers that the murders of his own family were not from a random home-invasion. As he learns about his father’s clandestine work for the federal government, he finds that he is now the target of the cartel. This explosive journey will take Jace to the edge of darkness as the hunter has now become the hunted.
